The Adult Leadership Qualification
Guiders are trained adult volunteer leaders. This lets us enjoy the satisfaction of helping girls and young women to achieve their full potential.. And you see the smiles along the way.
Any woman between her 18th and 65th birthdays can be a Guider, as long as she is willing and able to make the Guide Promise and undertake the necessary training:-
Like all Association qualifications it is competency based which requires you to ‘do’ rather than ‘know’. Each new Leader has a personal Mentor, who will be an experienced Leader, to help them through the qualification. It should take around six months. Throughout the qualification any relevant prior knowledge, skill or experience will be accredited.
There are four modules, which can be completed in any order:
- Module 1. Your role in the programme
- Module 2. Your role in Girlguiding UK
- Module 3. Your role in safety and unit administration
- Module 4. Your role in managing the unit.
Think of it as an induction process.. With a ‘personal trainer’ on hand!
Mentors may be supporting more than one new leader at a time, so you may meet as a support group, and share experiences.
You may meet other, more experienced, Guiders who are also completing module 1 of this qualification. This is because they are changing sections, perhaps from Rainbows to Guides, and are getting the help to better understand the programme of their new section and how the girls behave at that age.
