Jargon Busting
The glossary in the Girlguiding UK leaflet gives you an idea of how the ‘sections’ are divided, and outlines the roles of some adult volunteers.
We have listed below some of the common abbreviations that may baffle you:
| AMD |
Advisor for Members with Disabilities / Adult Members Database. |
| BGIFC |
British Guides in Foreign Countries. This is quite relevant in our county with several military bases and many girls moving between countries. |
| BP |
Baden Powell, either referring to the founder Lord Robert Baden Powell, his wife Olave or often to the Baden Powell Award that guides can earn. |
| CA |
Camp Adviser |
| CATs |
Commissioners, Advisers and Trainers |
| CC |
County Commissioner — senior guider in the admin chain from our County. She has the contacts to direct our thoughts up the admin chain. We are currently the only county to have joint CCs. |
| CHQ |
Commonwealth Headquarters, Buckingham Palace Road, London. This is the administrative hub of Girlguiding UK. |
| County Day |
Annual day of trainings and workshops, held in March. |
| DC |
District Commissioner — local area organiser |
| Div Com |
Division Commissioner—next area “up” |
| First Response |
A first aid and emergency response qualification tailored specifically for Guiding, part of the Adult Leadership Qualification. It includes our own “Risk Assessment” (common sense decisions) and scenarios for emergency situations in Guiding.
