Switch
Switched ONThe Switch project was set up by Girlguiding UK and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund until June 2009. Its aim is to reach out to and empower girls and young women aged 10-25 from diverse communities who have not been reached by Guiding in its traditional form. This will give such girls and young women the opportunity to experience a range of activities, learn new skills and interact with people from different backgrounds. Consequently the aim of this project is to help such women realise their full potential enabling their voices to be heard and making a real difference to their lives.

My aim as Switch On development worker will be to establish a group of volunteers who will help me deliver this project across Bristol, particularly in the Easton and Lawrence Hill areas, which suffer real socio-economic barriers. Therefore, I will hold a volunteer fare in January with the aim being to recruit volunteers to help me organise and carry out a Taster Day in late February so girls and young women are given the opportunity to preview the type of projects that will be going on with such a day offering a range of activities, information stalls and refreshments all free of cost. I will be advertising this nearer the time so watch this space. From this I hope to set up as many women’s groups as possible, whereby they will enjoy many activities, such as crafts, sports, outdoor events, day trips, residential events, community action projects and so on.
