Senior Section

This is the place for young women aged 14-26 who want to participate in an exciting programme, make decisions for themselves, and most of all have fun! The Senior Section is about flexibility and each member choosing an individual program to suit them.

What can I do?
Almost anything other than laser quest and bungee jumping as long as you have the right training and plan it well.

Recently girls have tried: the world scout jamboree, gained their Duke of Edinburgh award, dragon boating, run a party for a local Brownie Pack, took a cookery course, produced a pantomime, survived a winter camp in Scotland – and a whole lot more – see our photos for ideas.

Opportunities include
Look wider. This is the core of the Senior Section programme. Based around eight areas including sport, creativity, international, and independent living, it encourages you to undertake a wide variety of challenges to earn octant certificates, and possibly the prestigious Chief Guide Challenge Badge.

Informers. This is a peer education scheme that gives you the skills to work with other young people on topics such as bullying or refugees.

Duke of Edinburgh

Queens Guide Award

Young Leaders

Innovate. A national forum for all senior section members to get together and have their say – held in Swindon in March 2008.
Guiding Overseas Linked with Development (GOLD) – International opportunity for 16 – 30 year olds.
Zero camps – Activity camps for all the senior section members in South West England, held at Foxlease our activity centre in the New Forest every September.

What do I wear?
Senior Section members can choose from a wide range of T-shirts, hoodies, shirt, zip top worn with skirt/trousers/jeans/shorts as appropriate to the occasion. See girlguidingukshop.co.uk for all the options.

The Promise
Senior section members choose if/when they want to make their promise Their promise is the same as the Guide Promise –

“I promise that I will do my best to love my God,
to serve the Queen and my country
and to keep the Guide Law.”
But they have a further commitment – “to be of service to the community”.

Some awards e.g. Queen’s Guide Award, Young Leader Qualification, require you to make your promise.
