Young Leaders

Young Leaders are Senior Section members who choose to help regularly with the younger girls in Rainbow, Brownie or Guide Units. They will be involved in weekly meetings as well as camps, holidays and outings. They should have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the unit programme planning meetings, helping girls with badges and awards, organising games and activities, and be provided with the training and resources they need to do this.

Young Leaders can choose from the range of Senior Section uniform. They make the same promise as the rest of the Senior Section members and now wear the same turquoise promise badge.

Each Division has a Young Leader Guider or Coordinator who supports Young Leaders, helps them access relevant trainings and keeps them up to date with events and opportunities.

Young Leaders can choose to work on a leadership qualification if they want to – the new Young Leader Qualification for 14 – 16 yr olds, or The Adult Leadership Qualification for 16 – 18 year olds. Completion of these is rewarded with a badge which may be worn on your tab.

The rest of the Senior Section programme and opportunities are also open to Young Leaders. They may choose to attend Innovate, be an Informer, work on the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, participate in Look Wider or gain their Chief Guide, Queen’s Guide or Commonwealth awards.

For more information about being a Young Leader see the GirlguidingUK website girlguiding.org.uk, or get yourself a copy of the senior section CD ROM – just £5 from your local Trading Depot.
